What is hypnosis? You experience hypnosis every day, as it's a natural phenomenon in your mind. It's an altered state of mind. In hypnotherapy we assist you in going into an induced altered state and we make suggestions while you are in a natural trance state through relaxation, imagery and powerful suggestions that we pre discuss prior to the session official start.
Can you make me do things I don't want to do? No, you are in control at all times, hypnosis will not make you do anything you do not want to do. You can literally say no I don’t want to do that because your mind is still there and your morality. However, if you are willing to accept the suggestions being made to you then you will relax more and allow the suggestions to go into your subconscious mind.
Why not just go to therapy in the traditional format? You can, and by all means if that is where your heart leads you go! Many people combine the arts to make a complete healing, however, hypnosis allows us to help you heal your past without revisiting it and therapy can at times take you back to that very moment to heal it and it can be a painful experience.
What will I feel like? Everyone experiences hypnosis differently, I cannot tell you what your particular experience would be, I can however tell you that if you can accept suggestions this will be a very powerful experience for you. If you allow yourself to go into deep relaxation, then you may heal the deepest parts of you and feel totally free and floating. You may feel nothing at all. You may feel sleepy. You may feel like you are there in the exact place that the therapist places you with the use of imagery. You may feel energized afterwards and ready to conquer the world. Who knows? One thing is for sure you would be better off trying a session and seeing how it would make you feel rather than taking in the experiences and feelings of another.
Can I get Stuck? No, but there is a possibility that you may fall asleep and the therapy did not work as well because you were completely sleeping, sometimes suggestions work in sleep, but there are no consistent studies to show the probability. There was a study that the hypnotherapist left the room in the middle of the study session and while they did not know they were under observation, the people woke up spontaneously at different moments on their own.
How many session will I need? It depends. Some people can give up smoking after one session and for some it takes more. However, for psychological concerns it could be 4 to 20 sessions or more or less, you just never know. You have to observe your progress and many times for issues that are more like fear of heights or fear of crowds or fear of airplanes, you would not be able to tell until you are placed in that situation. It would be a joint effort between the client and the practitioner to come up with a reasonable plan based on the ability of the client to take suggestions.
